Today I’m ridiculously over the moon, jumping out of a cake excited to be announcing my new podcast ‘The Future With Friends’. The first episode featuring fellow futurist Steph Clarke exploring ‘the future of friendships’ is now live. And upcoming episodes with Dr Adrian Medhurst, Michelle Newell, Col Fink and Mykel Dixon are in various stages of production.

…but I know what you’re thinking, does the world really need another podcast? And isn’t that something everyone was doing 10 years ago futurist man? And wouldn’t it be far more efficient to develop an AI powered bot to interview other people’s AI powered bots and cut the humans out of the loop?
These are of course all valid points (exist perhaps for the third one) but ever since dabbling in podcasts during the pandemic years I’ve been keen to have another go*. That being said, having done it once I am also acutely aware of how much work goes into creating and maintaining a podcast (it’s not as much work as having a baby but it’s still significant) and without lockdowns worth of time to fill I needed to find something that really lit me up before doing it again.
And then about six weeks ago it happened. I awoke to find that the infinite monkeys in my head had delivered me the fully formed concept of ‘The Future With Friends’ while I was sleeping (sure, the concept involves me doing what I would normally do with my friends, just with the addition of lights, cameras and microphones but let’s give the monkeys credit for this one).
Since then I haven’t stopped thinking about it, talking about it, or skiving off to work on it…and to date I’ve already recorded the first three episodes and worked with my team to develop the way cool branding, build the website and produce the first full episode (kudos Sarah and Jun)…all whilst holding down my ‘day job’.
Anyway, I hope you get a fraction of the joy listening to or watching it that I get out of making it…and if you do enjoy it (or even if you don’t) I’d appreciate you rating it five stars and sharing it with everyone you know.

*During the long Melbourne lockdowns I created a live streamed interactive TV show called ‘This is Imminent’ with Mykel Dixon and David Dixon at PirateTV.
